List of New Raw Materials for Termination of Review

According to the website of NHC, three new substances have been added to the List of New Raw Materials for Termination of Review, namely,

1. Sialic acid

This product is fermented with Escherichiacoli SAIS107 (its source is Escherichiacoli BL21 (DE3)). The donors are Pisumsativum, Escherichiacoli and Campylobacterjejuni. It is made from food-grade glucose and glycerol through processes such as fermentation, filtration, sterilization and purification. It is substantially equivalent to N-acetylneuraminic acid, which was approved as a new food ingredient in the 7th announcement of the former National Health and Family Planning Commission in 2017. The review is terminated and the relevant content of N-acetylneuraminic acid as announced shall be implemented.

2. leaf of Common Jujube

This product is the leaf of Ziziphus jujuba Mill. Its main components are carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, and it also contains total flavonoids (≥1.0%), etc. It has a long history of being consumed by people in many provinces of China.This product has completed review and can be used as a food ingredient, either by steeping in beverages or as a raw material in drinks. Food safety indicators must comply with the following regulations: lead (Pb) ≤5.0mg/kg.

3. N-acetylglucosamine

This product is made from glucose, yeast powder, corn starch dry powder, ammonium sulfate, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, and magnesium sulfate. It is produced through processes such as fermentation by Corynebacterium glutamicum GB (GB2), filtration, decolorization, concentration, crystallization, centrifugation, alcohol washing, and drying. It has substantive equivalence to N-acetylglucosamine, which was approved as a new food raw material by the National Health Commission's Announcement No. 3 of 2024. The review has been terminated. The usage amount in liquid beverages with a packaging specification of ≤ 50 mL is 5g/kg, and in liquid beverages with a packaging specification of 51 - 500 mL is 0.5g/kg. Other usages shall follow the relevant contents of the announced N-acetylglucosamine.
