China NHFPC Issued Maximum Levels of Mycotoxins in Food (GB 2761-2017) and Maximum Levels of Contaminants in Food (GB 2762-2017)

NHFPC issued the new versions of Maximum Levels of Mycotoxins in Food (GB 2761-2017) and Maximum Levels of Contaminants in Food (GB 2762-2017) on April 14, 2017. GB 2761-2017 will replace GB 2761-2011; GB 2762-2017 will replace GB 2762-2012. Both two food safety national standards will come into force on September 17, 2017.

Compared with the original versions, the changes involve the addition of limit indexes for new food categories, the revision of some values, the modification of names of some food categories, the update of the reference test standards, etc. Here, we mainly summarize the changes in test items for you.

Maximum Levels of Mycotoxins in Food

The 2017 version:

I. Adds the maximum level of Ochratoxin A in wine and coffee;

II. Adds the maximum levels of mycotoxins in formula food for special medical purpose (hereinafter referred to as FSMP), complementary nutritional supplements, sports nutrition food and nutritional supplements for pregnant women and nurse.

Maximum Levels of Contaminants in Food

The 2017 version:

I. Removes the limit requirements of rare earth;

II. Adds the maximum level of Pb in spirulina and its products;

III. Modifies the maximum level of Cd in day lily;

IV. Adds the maximum levels of contaminants in FSMP, complementary nutritional supplements, sports nutrition food and nutritional supplements for pregnant women and nurse.

CIRS COMMENT

I. The two new standards specify more test items for food. Relevant enterprises are suggested to read carefully and find out whether there are new test items for their products. If the test items are added, such as infant food, the enterprises shall pay more attention their product quality.

II. As the new regulations will come into force on September 17, 2017, enterprises are suggested to carry out pre-inspection according to the new regulations, which will help them adapt well in advance.
